This picture book tells the story of Prince Bertie. His mother wishes for him to get married, and many princesses are brought in as potential mates. Prince Bertie doesn’t care for them, but is immediately smitten with the brother of one of the princesses. They fall in love and get married. The book ends with an image of the new kings kissing. The recommended age for this book is 5 and up.

According to the American Library Association, this book is number 20 on the top 100 banned/challenged books from 2000-2009. It is challenged and banned because it shows a homosexual relationship between the princes/kings and shows them kissing at the end of the book.

The reviews on Amazon.com are mostly point out that the book is about love and helps teach tolerance for different types of love and families. There are some reviews that abhor the subject matter and think this book should not be allowed near children. These negative reviews are in the minority.
